Education, Grants & Assistance 

Foster youth who were in care between the ages of 16-18 are eligible for the Chafee Grant, a $5,000 educational grant.  Apply online at http://www.chafee.csac.ca.gov

-          Youth can access Children’s Trust Fund Program

-          Foster Parents can access support groups

-          Guardian Scholars: Access a list universities with programs for former foster youth

Cal Poly Pomona’s Renaissance Scholars www.rs.csupomona.edu

-          University provides housing year-round

-          Transfer students accepted

Many state universities are required to provide year-round housing to former youth. Check your local state university and ask for a reference to a university with a similar program should one not be in existence.

Housing

Always check with your local church, many provide programs to house emancipated youth one such ministry exists at Southern California’s Mariner’s Church.  Positive Resistance thanks you for providing solutions to the housing needs of foster youth.

Does he need a job? Positive Resistance has volunteer staff that are employed by Apple One. They can teach him how to interview and place him in a permanent position. He can also access free internet, fax, copier, mentors, and mail service at the following.
 

Got Health Care?

Over the age of 21 and in need of health care?

If you are a college student check your local university or community college for on-campus health care.
